- Fabricio Werdum has declared possible symptoms of CTE in another appeal for the approval of the UFC antitrust settlement
- There had been possibly 107 potential CTE cases declared by UFC fighters
Fabricio Werdum is one of the latest former UFC fighters who have revealed that they are suffering from CTE symptoms in their declaration as part of their call for the approval of the UFC antitrust lawsuit settlement.
Another possible CTE
In a screenshot of Werdum’s declaration courtesy of MMA journalist John S. Nash, the former UFC heavyweight champion suggests that he incurred brain damage and possible CTE during his UFC career. For context, “Vai Cavalo” fought under the UFC banner from 2012 to 2020.
“While fighting for the UFC, I suffered many concussions. I fear that during my career I have suffered traumatic brain injury (TBI) and am noticing symptoms common with TBI and CTE including irritability, anger, anxiety, insomnia, and memory loss. I have many lesions and scarring in my brain, and I have a cyst that is located centrally within my brain making surgery impossible. I monitor this cyst with biannual exams to determine if it is growing. To date, no treatment for CTE has been found,” the statement read.
UFC antitrust news. 51 more declarations filed (107 total now I believe) in support of the Le v Zuffa settlement, including from former champs Lyoto Machida and Fabricio Werdum. pic.twitter.com/qjs1PlXxES

Possibly 107 CTE cases
Nash also reported that as it stands, there had been 51 more cases of possible CTE in their declarations and approximately 107 in total. The said declarations are part of the UFC fighters’ efforts in pleading for the speedy approval of the UFC antitrust settlement as they plan to use the money to fund their treatment.
“UFC antitrust news. 51 more declarations filed (107 total now I believe) in support of the Le v Zuffa settlement, including from former champs Lyoto Machida and Fabricio Werdum,” Nash wrote.
Prior to Werdum, his compatriot and fellow UFC legend Wanderlei Silva also came up with an identical declaration earlier this week. Back in March, the UFC’s mother company TKO, has already agreed to pay the settlement mentioned above in installments.
