A featherweight headliner between Calvin Kattar and Josh Emmett is taking place now (Saturday, June 18, 2022) at UFC Austin.
Round 1
It’s a feeling out process early on. Both fighters are throwing strikes, but neither are landing as they continue to look to find the range. Kattar slips after partially receiving a one two. He responds with his own soon after. Emmett with a leg kick. Kattar is starting to establish a jab. Kattar lands a right and follows it up with a front kick to the body. Emmett with a blitz. He lands a left and shoots for a takedown soon after. He lands an elbow off the break. The round ends and Emmett has a cut on his eye.
Round 2
Emmett lands a heavy right hand during an exchange with Kattar. Emmett continues throwing overhand rights. Kattar is avoiding plenty of shots and maintaining his distance. He starts to establish a jab again. Kattar lands a combination. Emmett attacks the body. Emmett lands in a blitz but Kattar eats it and controls the center again. Emmett shows good head movement and lands a right soon after. Emmett gets aggressive but eats some knees from Kattar in the process. Kattar starts to jab him up again. Emmett ends the round aggressive.
Round 3
Emmett lands a couple of big rights. He connects with a combination soon after. Kattar with an uppercut. Kattar moves forward and lands a right. Emmett responds with by throwing some big rights. Kattar threatens with some elbows. Emmett lands some strikes in a combination and follows it with a right. Emmett rips the body and connects with a left soon after. The round comes to an end.
Round 4
More of the same as both fighters continue to throw and evade each other’s strikes. Emmett pushes Kattar and looks for the takedown but Kattar defends it. Kattar with a front kick to the body. Both fighters land in an exchange, but it’s Emmett who landed more as he connected to the body and head. Kattar with a knee and spinning elbow combination. Kattar starts to jab Emmett up whose eye is getting worse. Emmett fails with a single leg attempt. Emmett is letting it all go as he blitzes Kattar at the end the end of the round. But Kattar evades anything serious as they both stare each other down as the round ends.
Round 5
Kattar having more success early on in the fifth. Emmett responds with a combination. Kattar misses with a step-in elbow. Kattar has the advantage in strikes this round and is evading a lot of strikes. Emmett lands a left. Both fighters are swinging as the fight comes to an end. Both miss with spinning elbows as the buzzer sounds.
Official Result: Josh Emmett defeats Calvin Kattar via split decision (48-47, 47-48, 48-47).
