EA Sports UFC may have over 200 fighters in the game

I’m probably not supposed to tell you this, but at the 2012 UFC Fan Expo I overheard Gilbert Melendez tell one of the EA Sports guys that he got his ‘face scan’ for the new UFC game and he’s beyond stoked. That may not be surprising to you since Strikeforce is a ZUFFA property, but I also know that a lot of other MMA fighters that one would never expect to get a face scan for a ZUFFA endorsed game also got their digital likeness captured. Perhaps this is what EA Sports is alluding to in their ‘Inside Look‘ at the development of EA Sports UFC.

The marathon capture session lasted three days and the team captured over 200 fighters’ likenesses for potential use in an upcoming EA SPORTS UFC title.

The images are then sorted in a program until they can be processed later on. These processed images are used by artists who model the characters they create based on the data captured.

The EA SPORTS UFC development team was also lucky enough to receive a tour of the Ultimate Fighter Gym. They saw the fighters’ changing rooms, the lounge, the gym itself and Dana White’s office. They took photo reference of the gym to use if they needed to recreate the environment for the upcoming videogame.

Ugh, my eye is doing that weird thing where it flinches uncontrollably, so I’m going to run in the corner of my room and cry about it. In the meantime, check out the rest of EA Sports UFC Inside Look.
