Daniel Cormier is not impressed by how Julianna Pena refused to call Kayla Harrison out and was in awe of how Alex Pereira broke a Ronda Rousey championship record.

Julianna should’ve mentioned Kayla

Speaking on his YouTube channel as he wrapped up UFC 307, DC shared his honest thoughts on Pena’s decision not to call Harrison out despite them being the former PFL champ her obvious No. 1 contender. For Cormier, there’s no reason for “The Venezuelan Vixen” to not sell her next opponent now that she has become the champion once again.

“I thought that she lost the fight I will be honest but I need to go back and watch round one I thought Raquel won round four and five pretty convincingly but Juliana did have moments in round five but I thought it all came down to round one I will go back and re-watch that to see what I remember though it was a very very slow round… One thing you could never question about Juliana Pena is her toughness and she will be a deserving champion,” Cormier said.

“I will say this: she dropped the ball on the callout. I mean Kayla’s on the screen. Say her name. Why no sell the person that is clearly going to be your No. 1 contender?,” he continued. “There is no world where she does not fight Kayla Harrison. She’s fighting her next. You might as well put the sell on it. Don’t wait until the fight is announced. Now you’re a step behind when you had the opportunity to be a step ahead going into your fight with Kayla Harrison, who will be the No. 1 contender for your championship as we go forward.”

Alex made history

DC also raved about Pereira’s third successful title defense. According to Cormier, the knockout win over Khalil Rountree Jr. saw “Poatan” breaking Rousey’s UFC record of shortest title fight turnaround, after defending his title thrice in seven months.

“It was a tremendous performance by Alex ‘Poatan’ Pereira and that is why honestly, he’s the biggest star we have in the UFC. The fans love him, they love him and rightfully so, the guy competes, he always shows up and he just defended the belt for the third time in seven months. Today, he broke Ronda Rousey’s record for the shortest turnaround in terms of title fights and he always does it so impressively. What a champion Alex ‘Poatan’ Pereira is,” Cormier said.

As it stands, Pereira voiced his desire to move up to heavyweight sooner rather than later. On the other hand, Pena insists on having a trilogy fight with Amanda Nunes but would consider facing Harrison if “Lioness” declines her callout.
