Dana White is facing some criticism for his latest comments.
‘We Don’t Do Anything Woke”
In a recent interview with Fox News, the UFC President made some pretty bold statements about ‘woke culture’ stating that the promotion has had nothing to do with it in the past.
“When all the COVID bans were being lifted, it grew our business, I don’t know, like 70% or something like that, because we were the only thing to watch. And yes, We don’t do anything woke over here at all,” White told Dan Bongino on Sunday.
Of course, you might know how White’s words boiled over with the Internet. Spoiler alert: it didn’t go good.
Backlash
One rebuttal to White’s ‘anti-woke’ comments was the fact that the UFC has promoted ‘Pride Month’ in the past few years, which celebrates the LGBTQIA+ community in June. The MMA promotion has sold shirts with ‘We Are All Fighters’ with colors of the rainbow in support of the community.
Former UFC fighter Mike Jackson (yes, that Mike Jackson) would be among those to point this out, in response to White’s comments (h/t: MMA Mania)
“Shout out to Dana for this “woke” UFC tee,” Jackson wrote on Twitter.
