Dana White Says Askren Will Fight Top Five Superstar, Johnson Didn’t Get Respect

Dana White Opened Up About Potential Askren Plans And Possible Reasons Why Johnson Left UFC

The legendary trade between “Funky” and “Mighty Mouse” was completed this weekend. Dana White confessed that Johnson has never been happy in the UFC. White mentioned the possible reasons for that. (via MMAMania.com)

“If you look at it, the kid broke the record for the most title defenses. I feel like never really got the love and the respect that he deserved from the fans,” said White. “I don’t know that he was always thrilled being here, so hopefully he’s a lot happier where he’s headed now. His longtime trainer and coach is an executive there, so maybe he will be happier there.”

DJ also described earlier he didn’t like the way UFC was promoting the fights. Demetrious Johnson is a fighter who prefers fighting inside the ring over trash-talking and insulting. Last year, Dana White even said “Mighty Mouse” fights had the lowest-selling PPV in the history of UFC.

Dana White doesn’t have a good history with Ben Askren. When UFC signed WWE fighter CM Punk instead of “Funky”, he said it happened because Askren had no experience. But Punk had no MMA matches under his belt at all!

Yet, it looks like the bad blood has come to an end. The famous businessman decided to change his story again. Actually, Dana White has some big plans for “Funky”. An undefeated ONE champion will get a chance to face some of the best fighters in the UFC.

“I don’t know, we are still working on it. Obviously he is going to come into the welterweight division. He’s undefeated,” he said to the ever-present cameras of TMZ Sports. “He is their champion, so we are excited about it. He is definitely going to fight someone in the top five.”

If Askren gets a chance to choose the rival, the UFC debut would be a Catchweight match against an undefeated Dagestani Khabib Nurmagomedov. When it comes to GSP, an undefeated wrestler still dreams about that showdown. “Funky” was calling him recently, but French-Canadian superstar showed no interest in their match. Askren also challenged Colby Covington. Of course, “Chaos” believes the former ONE champ is not his league.

What are your thoughts on this? Dana White changes stories over and over! He might turn to one of the biggest fans of Ben Askren! It probably depends on his first UFC fight. Also, do you believe Demetrious Johnson will be happier in ONE FC?
