- Colby Covington’s head coach Daniel Valverde said the UFC has already confirmed the title fight with Leon Edwards
- Valverde revealed that “Chaos” has begun his training camp for “Rocky”
Some welterweight contenders may not be in favor of it, but apparently, Colby Covington is already Leon Edwards’ next title challenger. Covington’s head coach Daniel Valverde recently revealed that UFC president Dana White has already confirmed it to them.
It’s done
Speaking to MMA journalist KOlmenero, Valverde broke the news and said there’s no way White or the UFC were lying when they told them Edwards vs. Covington is next.
Upon hearing the confirmation, Valverde said they started the training camp for “Rocky.”
“Dana White already said yes, he called Colby and he said yes, I don’t think Dana or UFC are going to lie like that, I think the fight is going to happen, we are already training for Leon,” Valverde revealed.

Not too surprising
Valverde’s revelation may be fresh news to some, but based on what has been happening as of late, it appears that Edwards vs. Covington is just waiting to be officially announced.
As most of us can remember, White has been insisting that “Chaos” has proven that he is the rightful next title challenger for Edwards regardless of what others say. Even “Rocky” himself doesn’t think Covington has earned his shot at the title but the UFC boss seems unfazed.
Ahead of the looming title fight, Covington already hit out at Edwards, vowing to “break” and beat the champ “from pillar to post.”
Covington has not fought in a year but he is coming off a dominant decision win over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272. On the other hand, Edwards has successfully defended his welterweight strap against Kamaru Usman in their epic trilogy match at UFC 286, beating “The Nigerian Nightmare” via majority decision.
