  • Conor McGregor suggests the UFC could already be working on his return even without him knowing it
  • All signs point to “Notorious” possibly making a UFC return anytime next year

The excitement for Conor McGregor’s much-awaited UFC return drastically subsided after it became apparent that the former UFC two-division champ is not coming back due to some issues with USADA. Now that the UFC had already cut its ties with USADA, “Notorious” suggests that there could be something in the works for him and the promotion might just surprise everybody.

Mystic Mac plays coy

In one of his latest tweets, McGregor stated that the UFC has the right to not inform him about what they plan to do. In essence, “Notorious” is implying that his UFC return could go either way but with that in mind, the promotion could also just make a surprise announcement anytime from now.

“I promise the ufc would never even have announce to me who I am fighting, they could do a surprise announcement out of nowhere, a date, an opponent, completely out of the blue, absolutely anyone, at any time, and I’d be in the gym prepping tactics for it. This is legally binding,” McGregor wrote.

A return in 2024 is plausible

It is widely believed that McGregor was one of the reasons why the UFC was prompted to pull the plug on USADA due to the fact that “Notorious” would be violating the six-month testing rule if the promotion allows him to face Michael Chandler in the season finale of The Ultimate Fighter 31.

Prior to the UFC’s split with USADA, UFC president Dana White already said that they expect McGregor to return next year. According to the agreement, UFC completely end any business with USADA on Jan. 1, 2024 which only means that McGregor could indeed be allowed to fight any given time next year.

McGregor’s opponent is yet to be discussed at the moment but Islam Makhachev’s team is open to the idea if the Dagestani champ would fancy it as well.
