It’s been a minute but Conor McGregor is apparently coming back.

That’s right, the UFC’s biggest star is plotting his return next year. McGregor could be back in action as early as April, since he recently re-entered the USADA testing pool and will have to do six months of drug tests to be able to fight again.

After that’s all done, there is still a lot to figure out when it comes to McGregor getting back into the Octagon. Time? Place? Opponent? Well, it’s likely that Michael Chandler meets ‘The Notorious’ next since they coached ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ together.

Conor McGregor At UFC 300? ‘Hopefully It Happens’, Says Helwani

While it’s not confirmed by any means, MMA journalist Ariel Helwani believes the UFC’s plans for their Irish superstar could be for him to headline the upcoming UFC 300 card in April — in what is made out to be a monumental event for the promotion.

“I think let’s just get to this fight. I don’t know how much he has left, it could be less than 5, it could be less than 3. Conor McGregor at UFC 300 is the move,” Helwani said on The MMA Hour. “Especially given what they’ve laid out and it would just make that event gigantic. So, hopefully it happens.

“It sounds like he’s in a really good place, currently training in the UAE. Let’s see, but all signs [point to]— I don’t know about [UFC] 300 specifically, but it seems to be all pointing to the direction of that April-ish return if all things continue to go this way.”

With a slew of title fights already booked for January, February and March, perhaps a non-title fight between McGregor and Chandler may be the best-case scenario to top UFC 300.

Speaking to Helwani earlier this year, Chandler theorized that ‘we might be waiting out till UFC 300’ to see him fight McGregor.

‘There Will Always Be A Fight For Conor That Makes Sense’

Despite being on a losing skid, Helwani says there is no shortage of fights for Conor McGregor at this point of his career.

“Come on, that’s crazy,” Helwani replied to a fan who said there is no fight for McGregor should he lose to Chandler. “There will always be a fight for Conor that makes sense.

“Is it a Diaz fight? Is it a Gaethje fight? There’s always a fight for him that makes sense. Even another Poirier fight for goodness sakes.”
