Colby Covington: Woodley Vs. Dos Anjos Would Mean Lowest Amount Of PPV Buys In UFC History

Colby Covington, a UFC welterweight believes he has earned the right to fight one of the names in the 170-pound division and he’s not interested in looking back other than that.

Covington (13-1) is on a five-fight win streak, which includes a high-profile win against Demian Maia. The hostile welterweight has no interest in looking backward and says he only wants to brawl defending champion Tyron Woodley.

It seems highly unlikely that Covington will get the next welterweight title shot, as former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos who defeated Robbie Lawler this past December will likely get the next shot at current titleholder Tyron Woodley.

However, Covington is not happy and sent a stern warning that UFC would be making a mistake if this matchup happens.

“You’re going to do the least amount of pay-per-views ever in history if they do Woodley and RDA,” Covington told MMAjunkie Radio. “I just don’t get why they want to do RDA. It’s not a money fight.”

“Tyron wants to be the hero, so if he wants to be the hero, he needs to come fight me. I’m the villain. I’m the bad guy of the division. I’m the most hated guy in the division.”

“If they don’t like me, they don’t like me. That’s their decision,” Covington said. “They’re losing out on business. They’re losing out on money. They don’t see that I’m the money fight. I’m the new money fighter in the division.”

“I’m the new star of the UFC. They need a guy like me, and they don’t see my potential. But that’s OK. I’m not out to please everyone. If the UFC doesn’t like what I’m doing, it is what it is.”

The fact that he isn’t in consideration for a title shot annoys him. And yet he claims not to care about whether the promotion endorses his mission to become champion.

“I’m going to wait and see what happens in this welterweight title picture. Maybe the UFC comes to their senses and realizes RDA is not a draw, and Colby Covington’s a draw, and Woodley’s a joke. He can’t even do his own pay-per-view, because the guy can’t even sell 50,000 PPVs. Maybe the UFC will see the truth and the realness of what the people want and what the fans want.”

Woodley is currently sidelined due to shoulder surgery and is expected to return by midsummer.

Do you think Colby Covington should get a title shot against Tyron Woodley?
