Clay Guida Defeats BJ Penn Via Unanimous Decision After 15 Minutes Of War!
The Lightweight bout between the former UFC two-division champ BJ “The Prodigy” Penn and ex-inaugural Strikeforce 155-pound king Clay “The Carpenter” Guida kicks off the preliminary card of UFC 237 PPV (pay-per-view) event, which is going down live from inside Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil tonight (Saturday, May 11, 2019).
The referee in charge for this contest is Herb Dean. The fight begins!
Round 1
Guida comes forward immediately, feints attack. Guida eats a big counter but delivers two strong hooks. Now Penn returns with a hook and it seems Guida is shaken!
The crowd calls Penn’s name a few times, Guida survives the strong punch. Guida lands a right high kick, and it seems he goes for a takedown. It didn’t land, now Guida tries to deliver another punch, but misses, BJ moves well.
Clay Guida is not attacking anymore, he starts to circle around BJ Penn. Big left hook Penn, Guida looks rocked! Penn now moves forward, looking to continue the combination, Guida moves diagonally. Clay Guida eats another uppercut! The end of the round. Close one, maybe 10-9 Penn.
Round 2
BJ Penn goes forward, Guida continues to circle. Guida delivers a great kick to the mid-section, it lands well and stops BJ for a second. Penn switches strategy, Guida looking for an uppercut, but misses.
Outside leg kick Guida, it landed well. Penn tags Guida with a jab. And another one lands!!!
Left head kick Guida, now Clay looking for a takedown. He hustled Penn to the fence, and now Guida throws short punches and elbows, this looks bad for the former two-division champ he has to slip out of it. Penn escapes, great move, the fighters reset!
Hard right Guida, it stumbles Penn and backs him to the fence again.
Guida goes for a great double-leg takedown against the fence. Success!
Few more punches lands before the end of the round. 10-9 Guida.
Round 3
Penn looks tired at the beginning of the third frame. His left leg looks hurt too.
Guida comes forward, throwing fists. Again Guida presses BJ against the cage. Short punches to the mid-section, and elbows to the head Guida. BJ must do something or he’ll lose!
Guida lets him off the fence, then runs forward and delivers brutal wide left hook, Penn seems rocked! Guida chases Penn and pushes him to the cage again.
Guida continues to punish BJ Penn. 45 seconds until the end of the fight, BJ escaped and nailed Guida with a great punch combo. Another left high kick Guida, this passed BJ’s guard. The end of the round, I’d say 10-9 Guida.

Final Result: Clay Guida defeats BJ Penn via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-27)
BJ Penn drops to 16-14-2 MMA, 12-13-2 UFC, Clay Guida improves the score to 35-18 MMA, 15-12 UFC.
