In a matter of weeks, UFC fans will finally witness the much-anticipated lightweight title bout between Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev at UFC 280. The Brazilian is well aware that he’s dealing with a proven well-rounded grappler and he’s now working on his wrestling and takedowns.

Putting in some work

Oliveira holds the UFC record for most submission finishes with 16. His jiu-jitsu is arguably the best in his division but “do Bronx” is not being over confident. In fact, in a recent video uploaded by Oliveira where he was spotted honing his grappling.

In the video, the former lightweight champion could be seen practicing some takedown defense against the cage. He then capped off the sequence by performing a powerful counter that took his training partner down hard to the mat. Oliveira then proceeded to practice some trips while defending a takedown.

Oliveira is eager to reclaim his lightweight title after losing it in a controversial weight-miss en route to his fight against Justin Gaethje at UFC 274 in May. On the other hand, Makhachev will try and win his first title fight and become the lightweight champion after pulling off an incredible 10-fight win streak.

UFC 280 is set to take place on Oct. 22 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.
