Chael Sonnen Returns As Desk Analyst For UFC 291, Broadcast Plans Revealed

The UFC 291 broadcast team has been decided.

Fight fans are in for a stacked weekend of fights. This Saturday (July 29), UFC 291 will emanate from the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. The card will be headlined by a rematch between Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje. In the world of boxing, Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford will collide for the undisputed welterweight gold. Then, Bellator MMA x Rizin 2 and Super Rizin 2 will take place in Japan on July 30.

Chael Sonnen Is Back For UFC 291

As we approach a busy fight weekend, details have emerged on the UFC 291 broadcast. A source told MMAJunkie.com that Chael Sonnen will return to UFC desk duties. Sonnen hasn’t been seen working the desk for the UFC since March 2022. He will join Anthony Smith and Din Thomas for post-fight breakdowns. Michael Eaves will host the post-fight show.

As far as who will be on the call goes, three familiar faces will be on the headsets on fight night. Play-by-play ace Jon Anik will be joined by Joe Rogan and UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier. In addition to his post-fight analysis, Din Thomas will also pop in for in-fight analysis throughout the UFC 291 event.

Speaking of familiar faces, Bruce Buffer will serve as the Octagon announcer. Megan Olivi will be the roving reporter during fighter entrances, and she will conduct both pre-fight and post-fight interviews backstage.

Fight fans in the United States hoping to catch the UFC 291 main card at 10 p.m. ET will need to purchase the pay-per-view through ESPN+. The ABC and ESPN portion of the prelims will begin at 8 p.m. ET. The early prelims are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
