Chael Sonnen has given Conor McGregor credit for how he announced his UFC return.

McGregor turned plenty of heads within the MMA community when he took to social media to reveal that he will be fighting Michael Chandler on June 29, which falls on International Fight Week. He then claimed the bout will be taking place in the middleweight division, which Sonnen isn’t exactly sold on.

Here’s the video of McGregor’s announcement:

Chael Sonnen Lauds Conor McGregor For Being A “Troll”

During a recent video posted on his YouTube channel, Chael Sonnen gushed over how Conor McGregor was able to snatch the attention of New Year’s Day from MMA fans.

“What an absolute racket this guy is running,” Sonnen said. “It’s so effective and I don’t know when it’s going to quit working. I don’t know if he has an expiration date. If you’re a troll but you’re the best troll it doesn’t run out.”

Sonnen went on to admit that he found McGregor laughing at the end of his announcement video to be humorous, but perhaps not for the reason you might think.

“It was funny and he got a big part of our community to stop what they were doing and to pay attention, but what do you do with that story once you have it?”

Sonnen went on to explain that McGregor pulled the classic, “two truths, one lie” game. Chael explained what the thinks the lie was.

“That is very clearly what happened here,” Sonnen said. “McGregor tells two truths. He’s going to be fighting [Michael Chandler] on June 29th, and then he tells a lie, at 185 pounds. So, how do you report that?”

When McGregor finally steps back inside the Octagon, it will be his first bout since July 2021. “Mystic Mac” had to endure a long road to recovery after suffering a fractured tibia and fibula in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier.
