Blast to the Past: Some strange, pseudo-sexual jiu-jitsu was being taught in 1926

So Ricardo Arona and I were surfing at the beach today and I came across this little video gem hidden in a bucket of 80-year-old sand. Some film agency in 1926 created a video entitled ‘Hints to the Ladies on Jiu-Jitsu’ which features this chick thwarting off a purse robber with a full uchimata (0:49). She then convinces the other chick to dress in lingerie and join her in a jiu-jitsu session. I don’t know, maybe it’s the fact that I’ve locked myself in a room for the past five months (besides my Friday afternoon surfing with Ricardo Arona) but the video starts to get pretty erotic at around the 1:50 mark.

We’re not entirely sure what this ‘Hints and Hobbies’ series from the 1920s tried to implement on society, the art of jiu-jitsu, and sexuality overall. However, it is our Friday installment of ‘Blast to the Past,’ so maybe you can make a bit more sense of it than we can. Check it out!
