Bellator’s Bryan ‘The Beast’ Baker is fighting Jeremy Horn and cancer

Let me just say I wouldn’t think about fighting Jeremy Horn even if it was the entire MiddleEasy crew versus him. He’d single-handedly knot each of us in a pretzel and serve us up with a side of Cheeze Whiz at a shopping mall food court. This is fact. Bryan Baker, on the other hand, is fighting Jeremy Horn September 23rd at Bellator 30.

Coming in to fight a someone as seasoned as Jeremy Horn is pretty baller on its own, but in a recent edition of Inside MMA, Baker revealed he is also fighting cancer. Baker was diagnosed with leukemia just before he entered the Bellator tournament. He has been receiving treatments and battling cancer while going through the rigorous training required to go three rounds with a fighter that has over one hundred bouts on his record. That’s hardcore.

I caught up with Bryan Baker to see how he was doing, here’s what he said:

“Thanks Cat and Middleeasy.com for caring about the Beast. I am diagnosed with Chronic Leukemia…currently I am on a medication called Gleevic that has been doing wonders for me. It’s very expensive, like five grand a month, but by the grace of God, I receive a year of it free. I’m so thankful for that. Been feeling better than ever — excited to get a victory over Jeremy Horn.”
Leukemia is a cancer that forms in the bone marrow and blood and it tends to make the person tried, weak, and anemic. Baker has fought and trained through all of that and apparently this extremely costly medication is really working. Baker says within the last five months, his blood is back to normal and he is about 75% better. In a few days, he will show us all how you beat cancer when he steps in the cage at Bellator 30. Get well soon bud.
