Anthony Smith doesn’t get why so many people are critical of Ian Machado Garry.
The Irishman has been under blast due to his relationship with his wife, which people have been critical about. Garry hasn’t talked publicly about it as he’s just focused on his UFC 296 fight against Vicente Luque.
However, due to all the noise around Ian Machado Garry, Anthony Smith was asked about him and said he had only good things to say about the Irishman. But, there is one thing that Garry has done that bothers him, which is going after Magny over his parenting skills.
Anthony Smith was annoyed with the way Ian Machado Garry acted toward Neil Magny
“I’m not a huge fan of the bringing cameras into the gym, he creates this illusion that maybe he’s larger than he is. But, I get it. I understand that he’s trying to do really great things, he believes in himself. I never ever speak on anybody’s personal life publicly. It’s kind of weird, but you know, like that’s their lives,” Anthony Smith said at UFC Vegas 83 media day. “You know what I mean? They can do whatever they want and he’ll figure it out one way or the other. Anytime I’ve been around him he’s been nothing but respectful to me. His wife has been nothing but kind when I’m around. Ian and I have the same manager. So we do find ourselves in the same places often.
“I wouldn’t say we were friends or hanging out but every interaction I’ve ever had with him is positive. I will say, the one thing that I will be really strong about Ian Garry is the Neil Magny thing. Really f*****g bothers me. I’ve known Neil, shit, 15 years, a large portion of my career. I’ve never seen Neil do anything that I would speak out against, I’ve never heard of a bad story about Neil Magny. So, the whole thing with the kids, it’s one thing to create some drama and create some buzz around a fight, but not at the expense of the reputation of someone that is as good of a man as Neil Mgany. That is the one kind of strong opinion I have on it, but other than that, I have had great experiences with him,” Smith continued.
Ultimately, Ian Machado Garry cruised to a lopsided decision win over Neil Magny back in August which set up his fight against Luque next weekend.
As for Anthony Smith, he’s set to face Khalil Rountree on Saturday in a fight he took on short-notice.
