Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort for UFC 108 is up in the air

The fight that the entire country flipped over their coffee tables and kicked their microwaves in excitement for went from ‘I can’t believe this is happening to me right now’ to ‘I can’t believe this is happening to me right now’. In September it was reported that Anderson Silva was going under the knife to repair his elbow, an elbow that apparently operates 800% better 99% of the competition in Silva’s division. If you throw some percentages in an article and then make a few things bold, people will think you know what you’re talking about. Just a few weeks later after the news surfaced, Anderson Silva’s camp laughed, pointed to the hidden camera in the corner of the room and said ‘Dude, I totally got you’. Ando’s camp stated that Silva was not undergoing any surgery and that dude could fight as early as November. Dana White was cool with it and a couple of weeks later he assigned Anderson Silva to tangle with Vitor Belfort at UFC 108. Everyone rejoiced, babies were made and then we later found out Anderson Silva did have surgery and that his UFC 108 bout could be in jeopardy.

Anderson Silva’s camp says the fight is ‘up in the air’ and Ed Soares explains the mystery behind the surgery that was, then never was…then happened when no one knew about it:

“[Silva] had a couple pieces of bone in there that were lodged in the elbow…That’s why he couldn’t extend his elbow all the way. And this has been bothering for him for quite a few years – at least a couple of years.

“It got to the point where I would be down in Brazil seeing him train, and I would see him finish up with his training and literally have tears in his eyes.”

“[Silva] was supposed to go in after the Thales Leites fight, then [UFC officials] offered the Forrest Griffin fight, and we did it…That’s when we got all the MRI’s back, and that’s when we decided to do it.”

“It’s got to heal, and Anderson has got to work on building the range of motion back…It’s coming along. The physical therapist says he can’t believe the progress he’s been able to make in the past few days, but Anderson is still not 100 percent and free to train.

“We’re going to wait until the end of the week to really see what’s going on, to really give the UFC an answer.”

Silva had fragments of bone lodged in his elbow that we assume was somehow absorbed from the skulls of his opponents. So it looks like Ando is awaiting doctor’s orders and until then, UFC 108 is on hiatus. Hiatus, that’s your word of the day. Try using it at the bar for unexpected results. [Source
