Alexander Volkanovski wants to make use of his spare time by taking on Dustin Poirier.

How about a little dance

Speaking on his YouTube Channel, “The Great” found a way to stay active while waiting for a possible title fight rematch with Ilia Topuria. According to Volkanovski, it’s a good idea to face Poirier in a lightweight bout.

“Maybe, just maybe, depending on what I’m doing, obviously I want to fight later in the year. I don’t know exactly what’s happening, I don’t want to wait too long either, so if the timing works maybe me and Dustin can have a good fight. I know he like sort of just wants good fun fights,” Volk said.

“Obviously we’ve got a lot of respect for each other, and I think that would be a massive fight so that’s something that I’d be willing to do while I’m waiting for that featherweight title, maybe a lightweight fight against someone like Dustin Poirier will be great,” he continued.

“You heard it here first, maybe we can make something happen,” he added. “Dustin, you’re a legend, keep your head up, it was a great performance still and maybe we could have a little fun in there, have a little dance – let me know what you think.”

Volk isn’t on Ilia’s list

It’s quite evident that Volkanovski remains hopeful about running it back with Topuria but from the look of it, the reigning featherweight champion appears to be focused on other challengers. As per “El Matador,” a title fight with Max Holloway is already being discussed, which could possibly take place in September. Moreover, Topuria wants to face Conor McGregor next.

As for Poirier, “The Diamond” is still thinking about what to do next, following his title fight loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 302. That said, Volkanovski’s request is unlikely to be granted, at least for now.
