Many people think The Amazing Spider-Man was completely unnecessary since it came so quickly after Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, and didn’t do a lot to expand on his origin. It’s a valid point, but Marc Webb really nailed the character with his adaptation. Raimi’s Spider-Man movies were great movies, but they never really felt like the Spider-Man I grew up with. Not to say the Spider-Man I grew up is the definitive version of the character. The Spider-Man I grew up with thought he was a clone of the real Spider-Man and is widely regarded as the worst iteration of Spider-Man. 90’s comics… What can you say that hasn’t already been said before?
We’re hoping that Marc Webb sticks with what’s worked over the years in his next film, and avoids all the 90’s clone nonsense. So far, it seems like things are on the right track with Academy Award winner Jaime Foxx playing Electro and Paul Giamatti as Rhino. We may even get a little bit of Green Goblin at some point in the film, but nobody’s confirmed it yet.
We might not have to wait too long to find out though. This teaser, featuring Electro, seems to indicate a full trailer will be shown at Comi-Con on July 19th at 4:00 PM. It will probably be a little while longer before it’s officially released online but it will undoubtedly be floating around out there sometime soon after it’s shown.
