Pronunciationbook – a channel, known for its features on how to pronounce certain words (such as ‘jojoba’ and ‘fandango’) – launched a strange countdown two weeks ago. No one knows why, no one knows what for, but what we do know is that it’s very eerie.
The countdown starts from 77 days and has continued in the form of a daily video for the past two weeks. Each of video contains its own audio message, and we are now 62 days away from reaching the big ‘finale’. If you don’t want to go and check the channel out, here’s a list of what’s been said in these videos thus far:
77: “Something is going to happen in 77 days.”
76: “I’ve been trying to tell you something for 1,183 days”
75: “I’m awake now. Things are clearing up. I’m not saying the words anymore.”
74: “I’ve got a minute, let me tell you what I think is going on.”
73: “Tension between the districts has spiked in a few months.”
72: “You can see it in the markets. Everyone’s ready for a storm.”
71: “They’re singing a new song in the streets of the zone.”
70: “I have plenty of information to keep me company.”
69: “No one is ready. He watches the market.”
68: “I’m not talking about a disaster, I’m talking about a love triangle.”
67: “We fell into the jungle for a summer of dollar-crime.”
66: “We were young heroes, gorgeous liars.”
65: “Turn off the lights and drink a cold glass of water.”
64: “No one is singing. Every day is the same.”
63: “We should have listened to Chief.”
62: “She’s waiting for me. I have to find her system.”
What is going on? Why has this channel taken 1,195 days to enter this countdown? What is this countdown even about? A movie? A video game? The people of earth reaching their demise? Or is this just a fancy way of pronouncing numbers?
Whatever it is, 4Chan and Reddit users are on the case. The communities have compiled a list of possible theories on a public Google Doc titled “77 Days Research Document”. A blog has also been made about the videos, which you can see here. Another theory, points towards a reboot of Battlestar Galactica. The Daily Dot have detailed in an article why they think it’s a reboot of the popular sci-fi series; referencing characters from Battlestar to the video and so on.
While the countdown is strange, the channel itself has been under some form of scrutiny before. Check out this video titled “How To State An Unpleasant Fact”. It starts off uneventful, but eventually becomes suspicious when the narrator mentions that he has to “complete the mission”, however, it’s not mentioned what mission he has to complete. There are several more videos on ‘pronunciationbook’ which follow a similar pattern, such as “How To Describe An Unpleasant Memory”. As the countdown continues, we may know more. But we’ll see what happens at the end, whatever it is.
