Doug Stanhope’s take on the NSA is unquestionably correct

Comedy is a weird thing. There are people such as Bill Hicks who I absolutely love as a comedian even though he isn’t exactly that funny. I know it’s weird to say that, but while I adore Bill Hicks, he isn’t exactly a comedian, he is funny, but when I listen to him, I end up thinking more than I do laughing. Of course this isn’t a bad thing by any means, it’s just weird how that works.

Then you have guys like Mitch Hedberg who nearly do nothing but a fast hitting set up/punch line. Yet he made it work in such a brilliant way.

Outside of independently owned holes in the wall restaurants, the thing I would like most about living in a city is the comedy scene. Stand up is probably my favorite form of comedy when it’s done right, sure there’s a lot of horrid stand up, but when it’s done at it’s best, it’s my favorite form of laughter.

While there isn’t a huge comedy scene in Connecticut, there are times when some big names come by. A few months ago, Doug Stanhope was in town and my god. My god did he kill. He did some of the darkest comedy I have ever heard and it destroyed the room. I’ve never seen someone take such dark subject matter and turn it into laughter like that. I won’t spoil his biggest bit which was truly a thing to behold, but he did a bit on the Sandyhook shooting, in Connecticut and it had everyone in tears.

A man that could take such a horrible event and turn it into laugher, certainly has some interesting takes on life. With the NSA kind of spying on us and knowing everything and anything about our lives, Doug Stanhope gives his take on that whole ugly situation.
