Jackass star Steve-O believes Chael Sonnen is off-base when discussing Francis Ngannou’s decision to leave the UFC.
Sonnen has argued that Ngannou could’ve made the $10 million payday he supposedly earned for the Tyson Fury fight in four UFC bouts. Steve-O appeared on “The MMA Hour” and reminded Sonnen that it’s better to earn that amount of money in one fight as opposed to four.
Steve-O Thinks Chael Sonnen Is Wrong About Francis Ngannou
During Steve-O’s in-studio interview with Ariel Helwani, he explained why Francis Ngannou’s stock rose despite the domestic PPV buy rate reportedly being low.
“Let’s assume it was a failure,” Steve-O said. “Let’s assume nobody watched Tyson Fury and Ngannou, that doesn’t change the fact that even though nobody saw it, everybody heard about it. Everybody heard that Ngannou shocked the world. Everybody felt that they missed out because they didn’t see it and everybody now is just clamoring, if not clamoring, just ready, standing by to mark their calendars to purchase Ngannou’s next fight, which is why I disagree so much with Chael’s assessment of the situation.”
Steve-O doubled down, saying he believes Ngannou has full control of his destiny following the Fury fight.
“Now, Francis controls the bag,” Steve-O said. “Now, Francis is in the driver’s seat. Now, Francis, his next boxing match is worth way more than $10 million for him.”
Much has been made over what “The Predator” will do next. He has mentioned that a massive fighter offer is in the table and he was heavily considering it. He also mentioned that Deontay Wilder has been training for an MMA fight, so that matchup is a possibility down the line. Anthony Joshua has also been mentioned as a potential opponent for Ngannou, who is holding out hope for a rematch with Fury, even if he has to wait for it.
