Emanating from the 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Paul vs. Tyson was originally scheduled for July 20, but a medical emergency during a cross-country flight forced Tyson to take some time away from training. As a result, the bout was moved to Friday, November 15.
Paul still competed on July 20, squaring off with the BKFC’s ‘King of Violence’ Mike Perry. ‘The Problem Child’ won the bout via a sixth-round TKO which helped to further hype his showdown against the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet.’
Mike Tyson Isn’t Worried About Paul’s Youth
For Tyson, this will be his first professional boxing bout since a June 2005 loss against Kevin McBride. Tyson did get back into shape for an eight-round exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020, but that fight was—for lack of better words—a glorified sparring session.
From the moment his comeback fight against Paul was announced, fighters, fans, and pundits have all expressed concern over the 31-year age gap between the competitors. Asked about trying to keep up with the much younger Paul during a recent LF*GO press conference, ‘Iron’ made it clear that there’s a big difference between himself and other fighters that boils down to one simple truth—they’re not Mike Tyson.
“Younger doesn’t necessarily mean better, it’s just good hype for the fight but it doesn’t necessarily mean he’s [going to be] better; I still spar with younger guys, younger than him who are better fighters than he is, so I’m just prepared to fight,” Tyson said.
“The reason why you don’t see most fighters [my age] doing this is because they’re not Mike Tyson… If you see any other fighter my age, they don’t look how I look, they don’t perform like I perform, they don’t work out the way I work out.”
