Khabib’s Poirier Shirt Sold for $100k
Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father wasn’t lying. Recently, he shared on Instagram that the shirt Khabib wore for Dustin Poirier sold for a lot of money. Khabib told the UFC 244 post-fight media his intentions of helping Dustin Poirier’s charitable efforts.
After his victory, “The Eagle” wore the previous interim lightweight champion’s fight shirt following their bout at UFC 242 and promised to sell it and donate all of the money earned to The Good Fight Foundation.
Poirier revealed on The Helwani Show that Khabib has donated $100,000 to the organization.
Khabib humbly acknowledged to media after their UFC 242 fight that he has a larger following than Poirier and more of an outreach to fans. So, the chances to auction the shirt for maximum value would be higher if Dustin sold the shirt himself.
Dustin Speaks About the Shirt
On the Helwani Show, Ariel asked if Dustin was ‘in the moment’ after the fight inside the octagon. He wondered if Dustin actually expected Khabib to swap shirts and raise the money like he said he would.
“It was great,” said Poirier. “I have no clue he was going to do that. He raised a lot of money. (It was) The biggest donation we’ve ever had with the foundation and we’re going to do great things with it. He’s going to help a lot of people out with it. It’s incredible man,” said Dustin.
Of course, Helwani asked Dustin if it were possible to know the exact amount of money Khabib raised from the shirt.
“Khabib donated $100,000 dollars to the foundation,” said Poirier. “I don’t know if he auctioned it off or if he just had somebody give $100,000 for the shirt. I’m not sure. I haven’t had a chance to speak with him personally and thank him. I’ve only spoke to his manager. But, he donated the money. It’s in the foundation account,” ended Dustin.
A Silver Lining to a Loss
Dana White also tweeted that whatever the shirt sold for, he would match the amount and send it over to The Good Fight as well. Dustin explained how he didn’t hear about Dana saying that. But, if he did, he is a man of his word.
He then went on to say that the overall goal for the goal amount of money raised was surpassed by at least seven thousand dollars. The original goal was to raise $25,000 to build wells for the pygmy people of Uganda.
Although Poirier suffered a loss in the matchup, he can hold his head high for his excellent commitment to charity, and his everlasting efforts to The Good Fight.
