Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Coach: McGregor Is Still ‘Most Dangerous’ Opponent

Javier Mendez Still Believes That Conor McGregor Is Most Dangerous For Khabib

Khabib Nurmagomedov dominated Conor McGregor in November, before submitting him in the fourth round. Despite that, Khabib’s coach Javier Mendez still believes that McGregor has the biggest chance of defeating the champion.

When the two faced off originally, there was very little that Conor McGregor offered in terms of effective offense. Khabib controlled the Irishman for much of the fight, even dropping the striker with a massive overhand. However, Mendez believes that McGregor still can offer something for “The Eagle.” He spoke to SportsDaily.ru to talk about Khabib’s current four contenders, ranking them on their chances against Khabib. “Talking about four potential rivals for Khabib I can give my assessment from the [least] dangerous to the most dangerous. Max Holloway [would] be the easiest for Khabib. Max has good boxing but it lacks the power to the lightweight division. Next on the list is Dustin Poirier. He’s got stamina and versatility. Tony Ferguson is my second choice. His elbows are very dangerous. And finally [the] number one contender for me is still Conor. His boxing is special, that’s his chance.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov is currently expect to face Interim Champion Dustin Poirier. The bout is not finalized, but is expected to take place at the UFC’s return to Abu Dhabi in the fall. If Javier Mendez is correct, this should be a fairly easy test for Khabib, although many believe the “stamina and versatility” Mendez accounted for, could make the difference in the bout with Khabib.
