Mark Hunt Clears To Return To UFC

The UFC has given heavyweight Mark Hunt the green light to resume his fighting career.

Hunt had his brain checked out both in States and abroad, and doctors were able to rubber stamp his return, which wasn’t a guarantee considering his tenure in combat sports.

Mark Hunt’s career came into jeopardy when Citing “medical concerns,” He was pulled from his fight at UFC Sydney and on leave from the UFC indefinitely. A decision that was made after Hunt admitted to memory loss and slurred speech in a piece he wrote for PlayersVoice “If I die fighting, that’s fine.”

As a result, UFC asked Hunt to undergo comprehensive brain testing in Las Vegas to find out if he was still healthy to fight, and it was determined earlier this week that he was.

“After a full medical analysis at the Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Las Vegas, UFC confirms that heavyweight fighter Mark Hunt has been cleared to compete,” the UFC said in a statement to MMAFighting.

“Yeah, was nothing wrong with me,”

Hunt’s manager Zen Ginnen reported The Daily Telegraph.

“We’ve just had a conference call with the doctors in the States, who gave us the good news, so it’s all looking positive. The doctor said Mark scored well above average and that he’s good to compete. So they’ll ring the UFC now and let them know. We’re just waiting on the UFC to clear him. Now Mark’s been cleared twice. He’s done testing with two experts in Australia — and been cleared — before going and proving himself again in the US. Obviously our concern was always Mark’s health and we’re pleased to know everything is fine.”

“The doc said he’ll forward on the results to the UFC and so we’ll wait to hear from them. We would love for Fabricio [Werdum] to be Mark’s opponent in Perth. We think Francis Ngannou is next in line for a title fight. So we’d like to go up against Fabricio and hopefully be in line for a title hot at the back end of 2018.”

Hunt is coming off a win via TKO in the fourth round over Derrick Lewis this past summer.
