Entire college courses could be taught on attempting to explain what happened with the judges in the Phil Davis vs. Lyoto Machida fight tonight on UFC 163. Machida’s offensive output seemed to be a tad higher than Phil Davis throughout the first two rounds, but Davis punctuated the last 30 seconds of those rounds with a takedown and a hint of ground and pound. In the third it was clear that Lyoto was outstriking Phil, and above else he was stuffing every takedown attempt from Davis. The judges at UFC 163 apparently gave that last round to Lyoto Machida, but the first two were graciously given to Phil Davis — which of course resulted in a confusing 29-28 decision from every judge.
Just minutes after the fight wrapped up, FightMetric released the statistics on the fight and it appears Lyoto Machida is clearly the winner. Also, it’s 2013 — why do we need judges anyway? Let’s just rely on this computerized stuff, it seems pretty accurate.
