Twenty seven. 27. Siebenundzwanzig. No matter how it’s written, being undefeated in twenty seven pro MMA fights is ridiculous. It’s almost as ridiculous as Justin Beiber releasing a Christmas song in October. Tonight Renan Barão beat Brad Pickett to do just that and we are now one step closer to seeing the Nova União guys start a contract killing service.
Barao fittingly came out to DJ Khaled, as all he seems to do is win. Unfortunately, the crowd gave him absolutely no props for the appropriate walk out music. From the very start both guys came out swinging like they were at a Leonard Garcia convention. Barao shot for the first takedown at 3:16 but it was easily stuffed by Pickett. After this both men slowed the pace but it stilled looked like a vintage WEC bantamweight fight. Out of nowhere, Barao dropped Pickett with a knee and a disgusting sounding right hand. Not able to finish Pickett with ground and pound, Barao took his back and worked the rear naked choke until he got the tap at four minutes of the first round. The crowd were audibly dejected, effectively meaning there was about a minute of silence but well done to Renan Barao on a great performance.
