Ciryl Gane doesn’t see how Jon Jones can beat him at UFC 285.
Gane On Fighting Jones
On Saturday, it was announced that the former UFC interim heavyweight champion will have yet another shot at undisputed gold. And no, it won’t be a rematch against champ Francis Ngannou, who has since departed from the UFC. Instead, Gane will welcome the legendary ‘Bones’ to the heavyweight division and he’s more than thrilled for the challenge.
“I’m really happy to be the first guy in this division fighting with Jon Jones,” Gane said following UFC Vegas 67. “He’s a great athlete.”
Styles Make Fights
The heavyweight bout between Gane and Jones promises to be an insane clash of styles. While Jones has proven to be excellent in every aspect of his game, ‘Bon Gamin’ doesn’t see a good path to victory for Jones.
“He’s going to stay well-rounded. I don’t think he’s going to prove something,” Gane said of Jones. “I think he just wants to win his fight against me, and I don’t know what is a good way to win against me.
“Of course, some people like to say my wrestling game is not good because of the fight with Francis, but this is not the case. I was not focused on just that. I’m well-rounded, too. I can imagine a fight where we’re going to stay on the feet and maybe we’re going to try some time to go down.”
The UFC 285 event will mark a turning point in Gane’s mixed martial arts career. “Both, because I never had this belt, and because fighting a guy like that is going to be really crazy,” Gane said. “So I don’t have a good answer (for which is bigger).”
