The highly anticipated rematch between Julianna Pena and Amanda Nunes for the UFC women’s bantamweight title headlined UFC 277 in Dallas, Texas.

UFC 277: Julianna Pena vs. Amanda Nunes 2

Round 1

Cautious start to the competition from both ladies. Nunes started in southpaw while Pena’s leading with her weight on the front leg. Pena leads with a right hand. Nunes with a hard kick to the calf. Nunes lands an uppercut. Nunes hits another right. Pena trying to turn it into a brawl as she steps in to trade. Pena rushes in but misses. Nunes lands a huge right that clips Pena. Nice left from Pena lands before a followup right. Another left from Pena. Pena with a stiff jab to keep Nunes from entering in. Nunes goes for a takedown and eats a knee. A straight right from Pena. Nunes with a straight left and another one to shake up Pena.

Round 2

Pena slowly moves forward aiming at Nunes’ head. A huge right from Nunes sends Pena down to the mat when she was entering in. A wobbling Pena gets back up. Pena goes for more strikes and Nunes counters with a big right to drop Pena again. Pena with a heavy combination on Nunes’ face. Pena lands a nice left to the chin. Pena and Nunes exchange more strikes. A beautiful left and follow up right stuns Pena. A straight left sends Pena down again. Nunes lets her up. Another punch by Nunes while switching stances stuns Pena.

Round 3

Both get to exchanging strikes from the get go. A spinning back elbow hits under Pena’s arm. Pena finds her way to the clinch. Nunes gets free and hits a front kick to the body. Pena lands a big strike and eats one right back from Nunes. Pena goes for a takedown after a straight right but Nunes reverses to take her down. Nunes goes for elbow strikes from the top. Pena keeps position and hits light strikes. Nunes looks comfortable being in Pena’s guard trying to avoid getting caught. Nunes lands some nice elbows to cut open Pena’s forehead. Another one from Nunes. Pena gets Nunes’ arm on her way out from the guard but Nunes gets out. Pena still has a leg while Nunes is trying to move to side position.

Round 4

Pena blitzes in and Nunes goes for a takedown and gets it. Pena trying to get a submission as Nunes escapes. Nunes lands two big shots before getting in Pena’s guard. Pena goes for an arm triangle again and misses. Pena finds an armbar that’s deep in. Nunes manages to escape and goes to side control. Big elbows from Nunes from on top in full guard. Both get up again. Nunes gets another takedown. Pena is all bloodied up here. Pena clips Nunes before getting taken down.

Round 5

Pena hits a nice left, Nunes goes for a takedown. Pena gets her in full guard. Pena was trying to setup an arm submission attempt but doesn’t get her multiple tries. Both are back on their feet. Nunes gets another takedown. Great defense by Nunes to avoid Pena’s sub attempts. Elbow strikes by Nunes from top position. Pena gets her in guard again. A big shot from Nunes hurt Pena on the floor. Nunes trying to get the crucifix. Nunes gets her back and goes for the body triangle. Pena somehow survives it.

 

Official Result: Amanda Nunes defeats Julianna Pena via unanimous decision (50-45, 50-44, 50-43).
