John McCarthy shared his side of the story following Tank Abbot’s recent accusations on him.

Big John’s side of the story

Speaking on his Weighing In podcast, “Big John” hit back at Abbott for stating that he and his wife were the reason for his UFC exit. In McCarthy’s defense, Abbott was drunk and started a fight backstage after his girlfriend egged him.

According to McCarthy, that’s what happened he and his wife had nothing to do with Abbott’s release.

“When that happens, my wife looks at Tank’s girlfriend and says why did you do that? We’ve been in court, they’re trying to shut us down, we can’t have these kind of things.’ And they’re going back and forth and about that time… Tank gets that [about one inch] far from her [my wife’s] face and basically says ‘I’ll f**king kill you,'” McCarthy recalled.

“Tank started a fight for no f**king reason. It didn’t have to happen and it was cause he’s drinking he’s drunk and he was drunk all the time,” he added.

Big John did what’s right

McCarthy also addressed Abbott’s claim that he should’ve won against Oleg Taktarov if “Big John” never stepped in to stop the fight. As per McCarthy, the UFC wanted him to stand fighters back up when they weren’t engaging in an exchange after Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie’s 36-minute fight where he never attempted to stand both fighters.

In Abbott’s case, McCarthy said Tank was already exhausted at the time.

“He told Joe that I stood him up and I was the reason he lost the fight… At the time I was not allowed to stand people up and I liked it that way, I didn’t have to make any decisions, it was real simple but because of that fight at UFC 6 [Shamrock vs. Gracie], they wanted me to stand people up and I was trying not to stand people up. [They’re] like no, no if it’s like that you got to stand them up if they’re just laying there, they’ got to get into action and if you were gonna think okay, I got Oleg Taktarov on one side, he’s a grappler and I got Tank Abbot who’s got some wrestling but he’s a striker, he wants to knock people out, who would complain the more about being stood up?

“He’s blowing snot bubbles on the chest of Oleg Taktarov, he’s exhausted,” he said.

Abbott is one of the pioneers of the UFC but at the same time, he also got involved in some incidents. He last fought under the UFC banner in 2003, following a series of losses.
