There is “great positivity” that Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler‘s highly anticipated clash will happen.

On Monday, rumors began running rampant that the fight currently scheduled to headline UFC 303 on Saturday, June 29 was in jeopardy after a press event in Dublin to kick off the fight promotion was suddenly canceled with little explanation. Even McGregor, who addressed the situation on social media, claimed that it was nothing more than a “series of obstacles outside of” his or the UFC’s control.

With all the drama, a bit of good news was found on The MMA Hour when Ariel Helwani addressed concerns over the status of the fight, suggesting that in his humble opinion, the fight will move on as scheduled.

“I can tell you as of last night and as of today, early this morning, I can tell you that there is great positivity that this fight is going forward,” Helwani said. “As of right now, you’re asking me all to shoot with you straight up, and I’m the only one doing it. Is Conor McGregor going to fight Michael Chandler on June 29? My answer is yes.”

Michael Chandler Heads Home Amid Conor McGregor Drama

In addition to Helwani’s positivity, a report from MMA Fighting revealed that anonymous sources were “confident [the] fight is still on.”

Of course, there is still speculation that the fight could ultimately fall through. Recent reports have suggested that the UFC is putting “feelers” out looking for a replacement fight. Not to mention, Michael Chandler revealing on social media that he had already left his fight camp in Florida to return home to Tennessee.

Only time will tell if Conor McGregor actually shows up for his quote-unquote “greatest comeback in combat sports history.”
