Dustin Poirier confirmed that he is set for possibly two more fights next year following a meeting with the UFC.

Dustin is not done

Speaking to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, “The Diamond” provided some massive updates about his future. According to Poirier, there’s no concrete date and opponent yet but he is likely to fight twice next year. However, what he is certain about is that his farewell fight will take place in his hometown in Louisiana.

“I will fight again,” Poirier said. “It’s just how this thing unfolds. We’ll see when I do retire. It could be uno mas (one more), it could be dos mas (two more). I had a good meeting at the UFC headquarters. I was out there with Celsius at a trade show and I had a good meeting so I could come back.”

“My goal is to get a fight get an event here in Louisiana… I want to lay the gloves down where I started fighting that’s my goal. Just opponent availability, what makes sense, then these guys behind the scenes, people don’t understand these shows are booked a year in advance… So it’s hard to just throw things together… But my goal is to take my gloves off in Louisiana and retire home,” he added.

Dustin wants the “hardest guys”

Despite being one of the oldest fighters in the lightweight division, “The Diamond” insists that he is not looking for easy fights. If anything, he is only after the “hardest guys” at 155.

“Nowadays, everybody in the UFC’s dangerous I’m not asking for like a favorable fight I want the hardest guys I can get you know, I was asking for Gaethje, asking for Hooker you know so I want hard fights. I’m not trying to not get beat up, I want a fight. It’s just the availability and the time frame, we’ll see,” Poirier pointed out.

Poirier hinted at a potential retirement following his title fight loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 302 last year. He has been fighting professionally since 2009 and has become one of the greatest fighters in UFC history.

As it stands, Poirier is ranked No. 4 in the official UFC lightweight contender rankings.
