Naoya Inoue stopped TJ Doheny to defend his super bantamweight titles.

And still

The Japanese boxing star put his WBC, IBF and WBO super bantamweight titles on the line once again when he took on Ireland’s Doheny in his home soil in Tokyo, Japan. Inoue did not fail to deliver and made his compatriots proud by stopping “The Power” in Round 7.

Inoue found success in hurting Doheny with an array of hard body shots that saw the Irish brawler badly beaten in the sixth round. Early in the seventh, Inoue’s body shots finally saw Doheny wincing in pain from what appeared to be a back injury due to the Japanese’s vicious body shots.

Doheny kneeled down and that’s when the referee called to stop fight, declaring Inoue the winner via TKO.

“I know boxing is not easy, so I really wanted to slow it down, one [round] at a time, giving my opponent damage,” Inoue said through an interpreter after the fight. “I am still [a work] in progress. I want to celebrate how TJ Doheny brought the fight.”

“You can expect more from me in the future,” he continued. “To all the fans around the world, thank you so much for watching this fight. This is not everything that I have, I still have a long way to go.”

Still undefeated

Apart from defending his belts, Inoue also prolonged his unbeaten record. His record remains flawless at 28-0, 25 of which came by way of KO/TKO. As for Doheny, the TKO loss to Inoue was his first defeat via finish. He now has a record of 26-5.

Inoue conquered the super bantamweight division after destroying Stephen Fulton to become a four-division champion. Since then, “Monster” has defended all his super bantamweight titles twice.
