Thiago Santos was impressed by Jon Jones‘ heavyweight debut.
Santos Gives His Thoughts On Heavyweight ‘Bones’
Four years after nearly dethroning the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Santos was able to see his former foe go to work at a new weight class when he took on Ciryl Gane at UFC 285.
Santos believed ‘Bones’ would be victorious in his long-awaited return, but he didn’t see it coming in the form of a fairly easy submission win in the first round.
“I thought he would win the fight, but I didn’t expect that like he did. He made it [look] easy,” Santos said of Jones to Middle Easy. “He is the one of the best of all time and he did a good job.”
‘Marreta’ believes Stipe Miocic, Jones’ next opponent, will be a step up in competition for the heavyweight champion. However, Santos still has his money on his former opponent.
“I expect he win and I bet on him his next fight. I bet on Jon Jones too against Stipe [Miocic]. I believe it’s gonna be harder fight than Ciryl Gane, but I’ll still bet on Jon Jones.”
Santos Reacts To Jones’ Comments
Before his fight with Gane, Jones would point out that Santos was one of the best strikers he’s ever faced in the Octagon. Santos caught wind of Jones’ compliment.
“I think the world knows. It’s good, it’s so important,” Santos continued. “You understand that you cannot fight alone. Your opponents make you better and you have to understand that. And when you understand that, you in other level… So I give a good fight, hard fight for him, was amazing fight, close fight. I saw his words and I like him.”
