Well, well, well. Chris Weidman says he stepped up to fight Bones Jones at UFC 151

The story we got after UFC 151 crumbled to pieces was that ‘no one would step up’ against Bones Jones. Well, no one but Chael. All of us reading these words know that was bull****. Hell, if you were OSP, or even someone like Anthony Perosh (or some dude off the street) I’m pretty sure you stepped up. Dana White likely had dozens of people that would be willing to fight on short notice, which would have made a far more intriguing scenario than a canceled event then a pointless fight against Chael Sonnen.

In fact, Chris Weidman said he threw his hat into the Octagon for a chance at Bones on that fateful day in late August of 2012. Too bad he was relatively unknown at that point. Imagine Weidman coming up from middleweight, and shocking the world, defeating Bones, then he never ends up fighting Anderson. Or maybe Weidman loses, and because of that, doesn’t get his shot against Anderson.

I guess it all works out in a spiderweb of plot twists, but still, damn it; more people than just Chael stepped up. But then, we never would of had Bones’ toe pop off, so I guess I’m thankful for that weirdness.

Check out this video from FightHubTV.com, in which Weidman reveals that he indeed stepped up, and talks about 205 and everything else that is relevant at this moment.

I’m 99% sure Mark Hunt would’ve taken that fight if he could make the weight.
