Saturday night in Indianapolis, Indiana, Real American Freestyle held its fourth event featuring elite wrestling talent and several notable MMA figures. Among the highlights, 2000 Olympic silver medalist Yoel Romero made his RAF debut against accomplished Bellator wrestler Pat Downey.

Despite being 15 years older than Downey, Romero displayed remarkable control on the mat. The “Soldier of God” executed a flawless game plan, winning decisively via tech fall and demonstrating that his age has not diminished his skills. After the victory, Romero called out rising star Bo Nickal, saying, “See you soon boy!”

Wyatt Hendrickson Retains Heavyweight Title

In the event’s main event, 2025 NCAA champion Wyatt Hendrickson defended his Heavyweight crown against 2024 US Olympian Mason Parris. Hendrickson, who earlier shocked fans by defeating Gable Steveson, maintained his dominance, winning 15-2 via tech fall and challenging the Paul brothers afterward.

Other Notable Matches

Former UFC welterweight Belal Muhammad faced two-time NCAA champion David Carr in a tough matchup. Carr, also a member of the US wrestling team, won 10-0 via tech fall in the second period. Muhammad struggled throughout, including suffering an eye poke, highlighting the skill gap on the mat.

Romero’s Performance: Ageless Mastery

Romero’s performance against Downey proved that experience and technical skill can overcome youth and recent competition. While Downey attempted to leverage his stamina and recent wrestling experience, Romero’s technique and composure secured a dominant win.

RAF will return on January 10th with a headline match between All-American wrestler Colby Covington and retired UFC champion Luke Rockhold. Fans can expect more high-level wrestling and MMA talent showcasing their skills in the series.
