Last night, Kyra Gracie broke the news that Rolles Gracie was headed to the UFC but I was too busy watching the Yankees publicly urinate over the Angels. If you’re not familiar with Rolles, dude is 3-0 heavyweight with all three of his victories coming via submission (apparently ‘Gracie’ means ‘There’s a good chance I will win by bending your arm in a weird place’ in Portuguese) and is named after his father ‘Rolls Gracie’ who died in a freak hang-gliding accident just a few years after Rolles was born. He made his MMA debut alongside his cousin, Renzo Gracie, at the International Fight League and scored a first round submission over Sam Holloway in 2007. Rolles likes long walks on the beach, prefers Family Guy over The Simpsons and would rather have mustard on a ham sandwich instead of mayonnaise (but if mayonnaise is all that’s in the fridge, he’ll take that too).
Rolles Gracie is making his UFC debut at UFC 109 against the British heavyweight who probably has the worst luck in the world (still nothing compared to Jay Hieron), Mostapha Al-turk. Mostapha ripped it up in Cage Rage and in his UFC debut, Al-turk caught a blitzkreg of hydrogen bombs that was Cheick Kongo’s ground and pound. Kongo welcomed Al-turk to the UFC with repeated hammer fists to the face and scored the first round TKO at UFC 92. In his second bout, Al-turk took on Mirko ‘I will eat your spleen, open your fridge and drink your orange juice and not even tell you about it’ Cro-Cop. Mirko Cro Cop rocks checkered shorts and if green means go and red means stop, red and white checkered means ‘stay the hell away from me before I shove my hand into your belly and drink all your bile.’ The fight was going great until Al-turk was poked in the eye which had him looking like something out of a John Carpenter movie (or Cheech and Chong). Ref didn’t stop the fight and he recorded his second loss in the UFC.
