Exclusive interview with Felice Herrig

MiddleEasy.com interviewer D**k ‘Starscream’ Grayson has had steady fascination with Felice Herrig ever since she walked in the house on the reality show Fight Girls. So when he found out that he was interviewing the chick he’s been obsessing over for months he tried to punch me in my face (which was hilarious). I’m not sure why he tried to swing at me, but it was alright. The guy hits like a can of O’Doul’s. He hits the exact opposite of The Little Bulldog Felice Herrig. Besides being ridunkulously hot, Felice is a pretty chill person with an amazing heart for the sport. She will be appearing in NBC’s Ultimate Women’s Challenge premiering this Fall. Check out this exclusive interview only at MiddleEasy.com – Because MMA is everything.

You were on Fight Girls. Is there more camaraderie between women fighters than male?On shows like The Ultimate Fighter they want the drama and a lot of people still aren’t ready for female fighters, so they kind of want to see the girlie side. They want to show that hey…we have normal lives and we’re normal girls but we just happen to fight. So I think they like to show that girlie side to show everybody that we’re not just these big, butch girls.

Gina vs. Cyborg who takes it? Um…This is a hard question for me to answer just because I’m friends with Gina and I don’t wanna say the wrong…um…

There’s no wrong answerNext question! I know, I know. It’s just that um … alright…I think that Cyborg is definitely…she’s a seasoned athlete you know? That’s what she does. Gina kinda does her own thing right now with the TV stuff and everything which might get in the way of training. But it will be a good fight. I know everybody is looking forward to it.

Ok. What do you expect you’re going to see during the fight? A stand up war.

How do you feel about 5 minute rounds in Women’s MMA? 5. Definitely 5. My first MMA fight I thought it was going to be 3 minute rounds and then I found out in the fight that it was 5 minute rounds.

What male fighter do you fight like?I would like to fight like George St. Pierre but I come from mainly a stand up background with the boxing, the kick boxing, you know the muay thai—and now I’m evolving as an MMA fighter so it’s kind of hard to tell.

I would like to say my fighting style…it’s a bully fighting style so I’d probably have to compare myself more to a boxer; a kick boxer. I would say Mike Tyson…but I’m probably floating my boat way too much.

That’s probably the best answer you could give us right there.Alright. Well that’s just stylistically. I know how I would like to fight. I try for being well-rounded. That’s what I want to do but I also really push the pace. It’s hard for me to compare myself to other MMA fighters because I’m just so new to MMA right now.

How do you feel about Andre Arlovski having a similar nick name to you?I’m the little bulldog and he’s the pitbull. It’s funny too because I’ve hosted an MMA show out here in Chicago on a local station.I’ve done an interview with him and now every time I see Andre he’s like Bulldooog. He’s got that accent so it’s really funny. Especially because he’s pitbull and I’m like Andre you stole my ring name. So maybe we’ll fight for the rights to the name.

What do you think about him losing? He’s out of Affliction now.You know I think that he’ll survive. He fought Fedor. It’s not like he fought a nobody and lost. Honestly, he was doing awesome. He was doing great with his standup. I know he was out doing training camps in California and he was working with Freddie Roach. He really, really worked his standup game and I guess he just showed that he doesn’t really have a chin, so maybe that’s what he needs to work on. I don’t know.

But I think that he’ll be ok. He will definitely be ok.

If you had the power to pick Anderson Silva’s next opponent who would it be?Well I know everyone wants him to fight Pierre. But they’re not in the same weight.

Yeah, but if you can’t think of anyone else. We’ll just say GSP. I can’t think of anyone else because they are both so talented and so well-rounded.

It’s kind of like the Rashad Evans vs. Lyoto Machida fight because they were both undefeated and it was just a great match up and it’s one of those fights where you are like ooh I don’t know who’s gonna win It’s just such a highly anticipated fight. That would be a really great fight

How do you balance your life? That is the hardest thing in the world for me. I’m my own manager, I set up my own fights, and I set up my own photo shoots. I market myself. I do everything on my own and I don’t really have a lot of balance right now. But I know that because I work so hard eventually it will all kind of fall into place where I can have other people take care of this stuff for me, but right now I realize that if you want something done you have to do it yourself.

What you’re doing right now is hard but it makes you better as a person. That’s good.Oh yeah. Honestly I wouldn’t want it any other way. Well I would, but I’ve been learning so much and I am learning all the different sides of the fight game and the business.

I’m learning so many different skills that I can help somebody else down the road. When I’m done fighting, maybe I’ll want to train some people. I’ll know what to look out for and I think that when you learn things the hard way that’s when you become so much of a stronger person and you really learn a lot about yourself and your character.

Yeah it just makes you stronger all around. That’s my gig. … Tough girl.

I’ve read somewhere that you’re very holistic. Do you meditate, practice Tai Chi…Um… That wasn’t me.

So someone is writing lies about you in Wikipedia?Really?! Great. I gotta check that out and erase that stuff. Wikipedia is horrible because people can write whatever they want on there.

That’s how I write all of my papers.Well I’m definitely holistic. I like to find more natural approaches. But if my arm is dangling–like when I broke my arm I didn’t say ‘Oh I’m just gonna heal it on my own‘. I definitely went to a doctor for that but for the most part I like to do my own research on natural stuff. Because I figure it’s less harmful to your body.

Do you have any natural remedies for hangovers? I use Advil Migraine.Well I don’t get hung over very often and usually when I am hung over, I didn’t plan on being hung over. A lot of water, vitamins…Yeah, hangovers—I don’t celebrate very often so the hangover is kind of part of the fun.

It’s the opposite for me. I have the hangover and had no reason to celebrate.Yeah see for me I usually only celebrate after fights. I guess it is kind of planned to get wasted but all I’m thinking about is give me more alcohol, give me more alcohol but I do actually a strategy – every drink I have a glass of water with it. It’s awesome. But at the same time I feel bad when I’m out at the bar…

You have to go to the bathroom?Uh yeah, I have to go to the bathroom a lot. Mojitos! Mojitos are my favorite drink. My go to drink when I want to party.

You did track and gymnastics. What events were you best at?In track I was high jump, long jump, triple jump and sprinting. I’m a power girl. Like, my brother says I have tree trunk legs so all the power events I was definitely good at. That and gymnastics I was pretty good all around.

You’re out on Friday night. What kind of person are you? I’m the entertainer. I’m the wild, crazy one. But not super wild crazy just – I’m like the joker.

Not girls gone wild crazy? No, not girls gone wild gone crazy. I’m usually the life of the party. Center of attention. That’s just me. I’m just very, very out going. That’s me.

What’s more difficult: interviewing someone or fighting? I am so comfortable in front of the camera it’s not even funny. And fighting…the preparation for a fight is the hard part. It’s not really so much the fight, it’s the preparation and it takes so much discipline and so much time…and it’s not even the training.

I’m very, very healthy and strict with my diet and I plan out all my meals. I put them in tupperwares and I eat every 3 hours and it’s a very, very strict lifestyle and the interview process is – it just kind of comes natural to me. You know I’ve always been good in front of a camera. I’m not shy. I’m not really at a loss for words. Especially when it comes to interviewing fighters and that’s what I do so it’s something that I am very passionate about. I did all of the training segments so I actually got to work with the fighters and have them show me some moves. I got to do the hands on stuff, the fun stuff.

How do feel about Michael Vick’s involvement in dog fighting?I don’t really have strong feelings towards it. I’m not like oh no! animal cruelty. No animal cruelty. Not that I don’t like animals but probably if an animal was in the road, I would probably hit it rather than slow down. Is that bad?

No probably half of the people would say the same thing. In those exact words? Darn it. I need to get new material.

Do you follow any other sports? No. Actually the only other sports my dad ever watched were all combat sports; all fighting sports. So boxing, kick boxing, MMA. Those are the only sports I’ve ever followed.

Everyone’s like go cubs or go sox or go bears and then they’re watching the games and I always cheer for the other team just because I don’t care. Like when the Bears were in the Superbowl, I was totally rooting for the other team just to be funny. People are so die hard sports fans that they will seriously…they were going to kill me. I was afraid for my life but I’m glad I brought this bullet proof vest. Everybody probably hated me.

What’s your favorite Chuck Norris movie? The one with Bruce Lee. Way of the Dragon.

Favorite musician? That’s hard. I love music and I like a lot of older music. But recently, I really love Kings of Leon. They’re awesome. They sing a song called ‘Cold Desert’ which is just amazing. And I really like ‘Shine Down’. I don’t really have a favorite because I’m just so into music that if you listen to my ipod you would hear oldies, Motown, 80s rock…I just have such a variety of music. It would be so hard to pick just one.

What’s the geekiest thing you’re into? I’m kind of a geek. Every single day I go to Caribou Coffee and I read, get my mind right. I do scrapbooks too.

That is a very grandma thing to do.Oh really!? Well you should see my scrapbooks. They are awesome. Your grandmother couldn’t do that.

Alright, 3 people for an F/Marry/Kill. This is just like The Office. I was just watching The Office and they were playing this game.

They’re taking my shit.Maybe you were taking their shit. Alright I’ll give it to you.

It’s going to be Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman.Well I love Wonder Woman, so I would probably sleep with her. Ok who would I throw off a cliff? Superman, he’s such a pansy. He would probably fly back up but whatever. And Batman I would totally marry. He’s really hot. You should do that with the Ninja Turtles! I love the Ninja Turtles.

Which one would you pick to sleep with your friend.I would marry Raphael. I have had a crush on him since childhood. Yeah he’s awesome.

Who would you have an affair with?Probably Michelangelo because he’s really fun. He’d just be a good one night stander.

Now off the cliff and one for your best friend…Off a cliff would be …the blue guy so that would be Leonardo. Donatello I would save for my best friend. The purple guy…he’s just not looking so good. I’d probably pick Splinter before him.

After the interview, Felice Herrig told us not to call us anymore. Bummer. She must have sensed D**k ‘Starscream’ Grayson’s undying love emanating out of the phone. Either way, Felice Herrig is the real deal and we will be rooting for her in her upcoming NBC reality show Ultimate Women’s Challenge.
