Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino is now a professional boxer.

After conquering MMA, Bellator champion Cris Cyborg was looking to take on a new challenge. Regarded as one of the best female MMA fighters ever, Cyborg has had a storied career. Cyborg has won belts in each promotion she has participated in, Strikeforce, Invicta, UFC, and Bellator. She has defeated some of the best fighters out there and continues to be a dominant force in the sport. Her MMA career is not behind her, but Cyborg was looking to branch out to other sports and possibly open some new doors and opportunities. She mentioned her desire to turn to boxing a few years ago and this past weekend made that dream a reality.

Cyborg was matched up with 17-21 fighter Simone Silva. Their match took place as the co-main event of Fight Music Show 2 which took place at Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Brazil on Saturday night. After a good back-and-forth battle that when the distance, Cyborg was named the winner by unanimous decision. She finally got the first win out of the way and could be headed into boxing more in the future.

Cris Cyborg was victorious in her boxing debut

Cyborg is a big name in the world of combat sports. She has other fighters calling her out constantly. Now that he has shown that she can compete in boxing, the opportunities should come rolling in. MMA fighters making the transition to boxing have become quite mainstream of late. Being able to move flawlessly from one to the other will benefit her immensely. Not having to choose is a benefit she has since leaving the UFC, where fighters might not have the same freedom.

Cyborg recently shut down any possibility of returning to the UFC but also has let her future with Bellator come into question as well. Although she has stated that she will continue in MMA, as the current featherweight champion in Bellator, her return there may not be the next best step. She has been involved in an ongoing feud with PFL champion Kayla Harison and perhaps a move to that promotion could be a good fit.
