BJ Penn’s trainer accuses GSP of steroid use

Back in August some investigative MMA journalism went down. Maybe a little too investigative. Kevin Iole from Yahoo! Sports met up wit BJ Penn back when he refused to talk to Sherdog, MMAJunkie and MMAweekly. Penn agreed to do a piece about his preparation for his upcoming Kenny Florian bout. The story goes that BJ Penn mentioned that some guys he knew had definite proof that GSP used steroids right up until his UFC 94 bout. Penn said this ‘off the record’ but Kevin Iole not only placed it in the interview, but made BJ Penn’s steroid accusation the focus of the story. Within minutes of the story being published, BJ Penn responded back with one of his infamous vlogs essentially saying ‘Dude, I didn’t know it was going down like that’. After the story dropped, BJ Penn severed all his ties with the MMA media and after he scored the RNC over Kenny Florian, dude got on the mic and said ‘If you want to know more about me, go to BJPenn.com’. It was the ultimate plug and a giant middle finger to every news hub out there. And that’s the bedtime story I will tell my future kids of why I love BJ Penn.

The greatest thing about BJ Penn’s trainer is that he’s not BJ Penn. Dude is not afraid to let the world know exactly how he feels about Georges St. Pierre and he did so on SI’s Gross Pointe Blank, an MMA show hosted by Josh Gross. Sure the name of the show sounds like it should be on ‘You can’t do that on television‘ but every once in a while he gets a gem. This week Rudy Valentino was that shiny jeweled object. Here’s what he had to say regarding GSP:

“I think it’s because of his so-called steroid use, and all of that, that B.J. felt it was an unfair fight. Just the whole thing about not being fair, and fighting fair, you know. That’s what B.J. wants to get off of his back; The greasing stuff, the steroids, and all of that. We heard from certain people that used to train with him, telling us what he did in the past. That’s why, we had a heads up on that. When you cycle steroids, you’re not going to test positive. You can cycle it right up to the time of the fight and not test positive on that. That’s what we suspected he did in this fight.”

All of this comes on the same week when Josh Barnett CSAC steroid appeal was delayed a third time. The irony of all of this is Josh Barnett is actually a really laid back guy. A laid back guy who practically collapsed an entire MMA organization with just one shot of anabolic steroids.  [Source]
