Sean O’Malley feels more confident than ever going into his fight with Petr Yan.

O’Malley is set to face former interim UFC bantamweight champion Yan in what would be his toughest test to date. In July, he was last seen in action against top-ten-ranked contender Pedro Munhoz during the International Fight Week card of UFC 276. After a competitive start to the bout, an accidental eye poke from O’Malley would result in a no-contest.

In a recent video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Sean O’Malley shared his thoughts on the upcoming bout. While he was never short on confidence, he feels better than ever about getting back in the cage.

“I’m telling you right now, I will beat Pete on Oct. 22nd, 2022. It’s seven days from weigh-ins, eight days from the fight. Every fight I go into I’m very confident. I just feel extra confident going into this fight. I think it’s a great matchup for me but honestly, it doesn’t matter who I’m fighting. I could be fighting Aljo, I could be fighting TJ Dillashaw, I could be fighting any of the top guys in the UFC right now and I feel confident.”

O’Malley says ‘it’s a big step up in competition’ for Yan

Yan goes into the contest with championship experience and a glittering resume. However, ‘Suga’ Sean reiterated his stance on the betting line and claimed he was a big step up in competition for Yan.

“Going into this fight I legit just feel better than I’ve ever felt. Cardio feels great, mind is sharp. I will beat Pete and I can not believe that I’m such a big underdog if I’m being honest. It blow my mind. It doesn’t really affect me but it does surprise me. But it also doesn’t because of the guys he’s beat. I don’t know it’s just crazy. It’s a big step up in competition for him so a little surprised there.

O’Malley is working his way up quickly in the division. A win over the division’s top contender could likely get him a shot at the gold in his next outing.
