Dominick Cruz Answers Frankie Edgar’s Fight Challenge

Recently, Frankie Edgar was interviewed by ESPN, where he admitted that he’s kicking around the idea of retiring from mixed martial arts (MMA) competition.

Should that be the case, Edgar named one opponent that he’d really like to share the Octagon against. A fellow former UFC champion, Dominick Cruz.

Now, in an interview with The Schmo, Cruz has responded to Edgar’s call-out. Cruz claims he’d fight Edgar because he has a lot of respect for him and everything he’s done in the sport.

“I wouldn’t say no to Frankie Edgar,” Cruz said. “He’s a legend in the sport. That guy, he’s done a lot.

“Thinking about it, he’s done so much, you got these new up and comers that people don’t know him real well – or you don’t know those guys super well, so, over time, he just wants to fight somebody that’s known, that can get people to watch – and I’ve been around for a long time, he’s been around for a long time, so I know where it comes from.

“Me and Frankie have always been cool so I have no beef with him.”

Cruz is the former king of the UFC’s bantamweight division. He reigned as the division’s title holder for several years before being unseated by Cody Garbrandt.

Now, Cruz is on a two-fight winning streak, currently ranked the No. 8 bantamweight in the UFC, looking to get back to the title.

Edgar, on the other hand, a former lightweight champion, is on a two-fight losing skid. His last two fights have resulted in knockout losses to Cory Sandhagen and Marlon Vera.

Should Edgar truly be considering retirement, one last fight against Cruz would certainly be a treat for longtime MMA fans to enjoy.
