Alex Volkanovski got involved in a virtual fight with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg ahead of his return at UFC 284.

Reigning UFC featherweight champion Volkanovski will be back inside the octagon against lightweight champ Islam Makhachev this Saturday, Feb. 11. He’s coming off a dominant win over former titleholder Max Holloway in his last outing at UFC 276. He currently rides an impressive 22-fight win streak and will put his pound-for-pound king status on the line for his ambitions to become a two-division champion.

Alex Volkanovski & Mark Zuckerberg drop virtual fight footage

In a recent post made on Instagram, Zuckerberg dropped the footage of his sparring session with Alex Volkanovski in virtual reality.

“Last year UFC#1 pound-for-pound fighter Alex Volkanovski stopped by Meta HQ to train with me and for fun we tested the limits of our performance avatars with motion capture in our Engage gear. Good luck this weekend Alex!”

Volkanovski will target the ‘champ-champ’ status

There have only been four ‘champ-champs’ in the history of the promotion. Former two-division champion Conor McGregor was the first athlete to hold titles in two separate weight classes simultaneously. Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes, and Henry Cejudo followed in his footsteps and stand as the only athletes to earn the honors. ‘The Great’ will look to cement his status as one of the all-time greats with a statement win over Makhachev.

It will be no easy task as Makhachev is currently riding a stunning 11-fight win streak and coming off a dominant finish of Charles Oliveira, the greatest finisher ever in the UFC, in his last outing. Makhachev enters the contest as a heavy betting favorite and believes he has what it takes to snap Volkanovski’s insane win streak with a knockout.

Alex Volkanovski expressed his willingness to face McGregor for the title if the Irish icon manages to defeat Michael Chandler in his comeback. But first Volkanovski will need to get past Makhachev in the main event of UFC 284.
