Max Holloway Vs. Frankie Edgar

Edgar Demands His Shot At Featherweight Gold Max Holloway may have lost his interim Lightweight Championship bout at UFC 236, but he is still the undisputed featherweight champ. Now, Frankie Edgar is calling for his shot at "Blessed." Edgar and Holloway have been scheduled to fight on more than one occasion. At UFC 218 Edgar was forced to pull out due to injury, being replaced Jose Aldo. Holloway would return the favor at UFC 222, being replaced by Brian Ortega. Ortega would go on to knock out Edgar, handing "The Answer" his first finish. Following that set back, Holloway would take on Ortega in a world class performance. During the same time period, Edgar would look to rebound against Cub Swanson. He would go on to dominate Swanson to a unanimous decision. It has been over a year since that performance, and now Edgar is calling his shot. Speaking to ESPN, Edgar made his case. "I think everybody knows it should go to me...Alexander Volkanovski is fighting Jose Aldo in a few weeks and that may have an impact, but I think everybody knows it's me. I've worked my entire career for it to be me." Edgar went on to discuss the choice to allow Ortega to step in on short notice. Although he lost, he does not regret the decision to take the bout. "The fact I put it on the line the last time Max and I were supposed to meet up, that holds some weight. I know the UFC likes to reward people who are willing to just let it fly. I've done that my whole career. I'm ready for that reward." Whether it is against Frankie Edgar or not, Max Holloway will need some time to recover following his epic performance against Dustin Poirier.
