The world’s first Terminator has been created, and it looks pretty friggin’ intimidating

His name is ATLAS and in enough time you will be forced to lead the human rebellion to overcome the onslaught of his cousins, until a time-traveling ATLAS goes into the past to kill your mother — and then later becomes governor of California, or something.

DARPA and Boston Dynamics have teamed up to create a 6’2″, 330 lb humanoid robot that stereo vision with dedicated sensor and perception algorithms to help ATLAS make sense of his new-found reality — and of course easier to lock on his target with his laser guided machine guns. Alright, so he doesn’t a machine gun (yet), but ATLAS is loosely constructed upon the US Military’s PETMAN, a robot designed to help with disaster response and improvised explosive device diffusion.

ATLAS also comes equipped with 28 hydraulically actuated joints, making it the most human anthropomorphic robot ever created. Now check out this video of ATLAS in action and remember that DARPA is such a weird way to spell ‘Skynet.’

And here’s ATLAS in all of his robotic glory.
