Tenshin Nasukawa retires undefeated from the sport of kickboxing.
This past Sunday, Japanese kickboxing sensation Tenshin took on rival Takeru in a megafight billed as the ‘fight of the century.’ He managed to come out on top and retain his unblemished record of 42-0 in what would turn out to be his final fight. Their bout served as the headliner for The Match 2022, co-promoted by Rise K-1 and Rizin at the Tokyo Dome.
Tenshin Nasukawa retires undefeated after beating Takeru
The current Rise & Rizin Kickboxing featherweight king Tenshin secured a unanimous decision win over K-1 striker Takeru Segawa after knocking him down during the contest. Tenshin, a former bantamweight champion for both Rise & Rizin Kickboxing, finished his career having never tasted defeat.
The 58kg main event clash was set for three rounds with the possibility of a one-round extension. They used 6oz gloves and made their glamorous entrances by being lifted to the ramp via a crane.
Tenshin opened strong with punch combinations and found success with his jab bloodying Takeru’s nose early in the fight. He then connected with a big left hook counter that dropped Takeru to the floor to earn a 10-8 round on the judges’ scorecards. Although an accidental clash of heads threw him off in round two, he maintained his composure to win the bout.
Switch to pro boxing
Talks of the showdown had been circulating for years but nothing concrete had developed until Tenshin officially declared his plan to transition to pro boxing. The 23-year-old Japanese added another feather to his cap with a sensational final win over Takeru. After the fight was over, Tenshin confirmed it to be his last kickboxing contest and shared his intentions to switch full-time to boxing.
