Lerone Murphy puts his ‘O’ on the line against former Bellator star and UFC newcomer Aaron Pico.
After establishing himself as one of the best featherweight fighters in the world, Pico will finally test his mettle against the best of the best, starting at UFC 319 in Chicago. Standing in his way of a win in his first promotional appearance is Murphy, a fighter who has yet to experience defeat in his 17-fight career.
With eight wins inside the Octagon thus far, ‘The Miracle’ was determined to spoil Pico’s big debut and take another step toward title contention.
Round 1
Things got started fast with Pico landing a left hand early and forcing Murphy’s back against the cage. Pico hits a nasty low kick and rips to Murphy’s body, but Murphy nearly cinches in a guillotine choke. Pico fights his way out of the hold and takes top control. Murphy quickly works his way back up, but Pico immediately changes levels, taking Murphy down to the mat once again. Murphy fights his way back up and separates, offering up a spinning heel kick to the body on the break.
As Pico closed the distance, he ate a knee to the midsection from Murphy. Pico backs away before moving back in. Murphy throws a spinning back elbow that catches Pico clean and immediately renders the former Bellator star unconscious.
