Following his first loss inside the Octagon, Fighting Nerds standout Carlos Prates returned to the Octagon at UFC 319 for a high-stakes crap with welterweight gatekeeper Geoff Neal.

Prates fell to 4-1 under the UFC banner after surrendering a unanimous decision against Ian Machado Garry in April. Meanwhile, Neal will look to keep his momentum going after snapping a two-fight losing skid with a big first-round TKO against ex-titleholder Rafael dos Anjos.

Round 1

Neal starts the fight by mixing up kicks to Prates’ lead leg and head. Prates comes right back with a spinning back kick. Neal closes in and lands a right hand after catching one of Prates’ kicks. Neal lands a one-two, but he eats a nasty calf kick in return. Prates punishes Neal’s leg once again. Neal connects with a nice jab, but Prates comes right back with a knee.

Prates throws a spinning heel kick to the head, but Neal gets his hand up just in time. Prates gets clipped with a right from Neal, but he fires right back with a combination near the fence. Prates throws another knee up the middle. Neal uses that as an opportunity to clinch up against the cage momentarily. Neal does a little trash-talking, but quickly pays for it as Prates lands a spinning elbow at the bell that sends Neal crashing to the canvas.

As the horn sounds, referee Jason Herzog waves off the fight, awarding Prates the victory via a first-round knockout.

Official Result: Carlos Prates def. Geoff Neal via KO (spinning back elbow) at 4:59 of Round 1.
